Inertia Dance Company

Howling from Westside High School in Houston Independent School District, established in 2000, The Inertia program is dedicated in developing young men and women with active and creative minds, a sense of understanding and compassion for others, and the courage to act on their beliefs. Through all elements of dance education, Inertia stresses excellence in the classroom and the total development of each student: spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical.

Amberly Altamirano, Director

  • Originally born in Brownsville Texas, Ms. Altamirano is an alumni from Sam Houston State University where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts. While completing her BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography, she apprenticed for NobleMotion Dance and performed works choreographed by Elijah Gibson, Manuel Vignoulle, Revolve Dance Company, Recked Productions and Bliss Kohlmyer. She appeared as a Vegas Finalist for Season 10’s “So You Think You Can Dance” and was also awarded “Fan Favorite” for RGV’s annual Dancing with the Stars event. Upon graduation Altamirano had the privilege of performing as a company member with NobleMotion Dance and founded NobleMotion's pre-professional 2nd company, NMD2. Altamirano is now established at Westside High School's Inertia Dance Company in Houston, Tx to further extend her artistry through teaching, choreography, and performance.

christopher thomas, assistant director

  • Chris began dancing and entertaining at a very young age, and by the time he reached 11 was already being featured in commercials. Taking a break during his teen years to focus on sports and college, he returned to his true love, dance, and in 2007 began traveling the world as a teacher, choreographer, and performer. In 2011 Chris relocated to Bangkok, Thailand to teach at an entertainment academy. There he trained local pop stars while hosting and performing at events throughout Southeast Asia. Chris moved back home to Houston a year later and started his own dance company, Sonkiss'd Dance Theater. Six years later he is still an active member of the crew, has joined the world famous Havikoro Crew, and produces shows all across America. When it comes to entertainment he believes he can achieve anything. His motto: "God gave you a talent. Use it. That is your gift to the world."

Sharon Roberts, Founder

  • Sharon Roberts is the founder and architect of the Westside Dance program ever since Westside opened it's doors in 2000. After her tenure at Lamar High School and successfully fabricating Lamar Dance Theatre, she was recruited by Scott Van Beck to come to West Houston and start something special. Ms Roberts is a master teacher of dance education. With 20 years experience, she has been honored as HISD’s Dance Educator of the Year, 2004 People Magazine’s “Heroes Among Us Honoree”, along with 10 nominations for Who’s Who Among American Teachers. With a new found interest in journalism, Ms Roberts has become a teacher for broadcast journalism and is in charge of the school newspaper and yearbook for Westside. Please visit www.howlernews.com.
